Plenty of saunas are sold as “indoor/outdoor” only if you add a cover, so this list sticks to three models whose makers specifically describe outdoor construction or outdoor kits. The Luminar 2 has an aerospace-grade aluminum exterior over a Canadian red cedar interior. Sun Home says it’s engineered for all seasons, with a tempered glass door. It heats from 0–170°F with nine heaters (six full-spectrum, three far-infrared) and needs a 240V, 20A dedicated circuit with GFCI protection and a NEMA L6-20 connection. The footprint is compact for an outdoor unit, at 57" × 51.5" × 82.7". Sun Home’s own FAQ advises a weather cover during rain, snow and colder months, which also helps heat retention. The warranty is limited lifetime.
The Sauna Mini is a compact traditional sauna for two. It comes with a HUUM Steel Mini 4 heater, Wi-Fi controller, 132 lbs of stones and a waterproof roof, and reaches up to 210°F. For cold weather, the useful spec is the wall: ¾" insulated walls with a vapor barrier, per Plunge. Plan two things before you order. First, the foundation: the surface must support up to 1,400 lbs, and Plunge recommends a level concrete pad at least 4" thick or a reinforced treated-lumber deck. Second, power: a dedicated 220–240V, 20A circuit with a NEMA L14-20 outlet. The power cord is not included. Plunge’s fall sale also listed a complimentary 2-year extended warranty and $1,000 off professional assembly.
The Eddy is a traditional 6' × 4' western red cedar barrel for two, handcrafted in Ohio. Titan’s listing says it can be used outdoors with the roof kit, so budget for that version. It runs 110–230°F, dry or with steam. Heat-up time is the cold-climate caveat: Titan quotes 50–90 minutes depending on desired temperature and weather, and cold days sit at the long end. A HUUM heater with Wi-Fi and the UKU remote lets you start heating before you head outside. Two people can assemble it in 2–3 hours, per the listing. Electrical requirements aren’t on the product page.
Before you order: the cold-climate essentials
Whichever model you choose, plan four things: a level base rated for the full weight (Plunge asks for a surface that supports 1,400 lbs for the Sauna Mini), a dedicated 240V circuit installed by an electrician, a roof or cover (included with the Sauna Mini, an $800 kit for the Eddy, a cover for the Luminar), and a Wi-Fi heater to start the longer winter heat-up from indoors. Can I put an indoor infrared sauna on a covered patio?
Only if the manufacturer allows it, and usually only with their cover. Read the warranty terms first. Ice Barrel’s outdoor-cover rule above is one example.
Is a barrel sauna better in the cold?
Not automatically. What matters is insulation, the roof, and whether the heater can reach temperature in your weather. Compare published heat-up times and wall construction. See traditional vs infrared.
