A chiller is what turns a tub of water into a cold plunge you can use every day without hauling ice. All five setups below include one. They differ in how cold they go, how much water they hold, how much floor they take up and what they cost. Specs come straight from each brand’s product page. We don’t make health claims, so if you have a medical condition, ask your doctor before cold-water immersion.

The picks
The All-In is an integrated plug-and-plunge unit: fill it, plug it into a dedicated 120V/15A circuit, and set the temperature down to 37°F in the app. No plumbing is required. Plunge lists a cooling rate of 10–12°F per hour, ozone sanitation, and a 0.75 HP chiller that it says can hold 37°F in 120°F ambient air. It has Plunge’s largest internal tub (fits people up to 6'9"). Filled, it weighs 1,150 lbs, so check your floor. Delivery in Plunge’s core zones includes free in-home placement on the first level, and there’s a 30-day guarantee.
The Pod has an upright, reclined seat in a 45" × 30" footprint, holds 87 gallons and reaches 37°F with the Pro Chiller (8–10°F per hour; the standard chiller is 4–6°F per hour). Plunge says it uses a standard 110V outlet, with a dedicated 15A circuit required for best performance. Full immersion for people up to 6'7".
Plunge’s original acrylic-and-fiberglass lay-down tub is 10 inches shorter than the All-In (66⅝" vs 76¾") but holds the same 105 gallons. It cools to 37°F with the Pro Chiller at 8–10°F per hour and runs on a dedicated 120V/15A circuit. It’s a good fit if you want a lay-down tub but the All-In’s length doesn’t fit your space.
This bundle pairs the insulated Ice Barrel 500 ($1,749.99 on its own) with the Ice Barrel Chiller ($3,999.99 on its own). The chiller holds 37°F, works in ambient temperatures up to 120°F, uses R290 refrigerant and is Wi-Fi/app controlled. The barrel holds 94 gallons, seats you upright with built-in steps and an internal seat, and fits people up to 6'9". The barrel is made in the USA from recycled materials and carries a limited lifetime warranty; the chiller has a 1-year warranty. Note that the drain spout requires assembly.
Sun Home rates the Cold Plunge Pro down to 28°F and says that’s cold enough to form floating ice. It holds 150 gallons, sanitizes with ozone and UV, and runs on a dedicated 15A GFCI circuit with a standard NEMA 5-15 plug, indoors or outdoors. It costs about twice as much as the others here. Sun Home recommends changing the Pro’s filters every 2–4 weeks, and notes the unit can run 24/7.
Buying checklist
- Dedicated circuit. Every model here wants its own 15-amp circuit (or recommends one), with nothing else drawing power.
- Floor load. A filled tub weighs 820–1,150 lbs on the Plunge models, so think twice about upper floors and decks.
- Clearance for airflow. Plunge asks for at least 16" on the All-In’s fan side and 12" at the front for drain access and ventilation.
- Winter outdoors. Sun Home warns that filtration systems shouldn’t run in sub-freezing conditions and that winterization is required if the unit will be exposed to freezing temperatures. Ask each brand about its cold-weather guidance.
- Ongoing costs. Filters (every 2–6 weeks depending on model, per Sun Home), sanitizer and electricity.
